Racial attacks and any form of harassment are against the law. They also harm good community relations by creating tensions which devide people.

The Police, the two local Councils and community groups are committed to supporting victims and tackling this problem effectively. A local Racial Incidents Response Group meets regularly and includes representatives from all the agencies shown on this site.

This Campaign is supported by:
Racial Equality Council, Thames Valley Police, Aylesbury Vale District Council,
Buckinghamshire County Council, Bucks Probation Service, Benefits Agency,
Victim Support Scheme, Citizens Advice Bureau, Chamber of Commerce.

We believe that all people have the right to live peacefully in their homes and free from harassment, abuse or attack.

Because of your colour, race, nationality or ethnic origin ?
If so, report the matter to your local Police Station or Racial Equality Council or any other agency shown in this leaflet. Unless you report these incidents we cannot help.

Your local Police
are committed to ensure that no member of the public receives less favorable treatment or service on the grounds of race, colour, nationality or national origins.

It is our aim to effectively resolve racial incidents by using a problem solving approach, in partnership with other agencies where appropriate.

We view a racial incident as:
"Any incident which is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person."

 

Aylesbury Vale Racial Equality Council
are working towards the:

  • Elimination of discrimination
  • Promoting Equality of opportunity and good relations between persons of different racial groups and
  • Will advise and support victims of abuse.
  • Will obtain the support of other relevant agencies and coordinate their work.

Buckinghamshire County Council
is committed to equal opportunities in all its aspects, including

race and colour, both as the largest employer in the County and also in terms of service delivery.

The County Council will:

  • Cooperate fully and actively with any other agencies in responding to incidents of racial harassment occurring within their establishments, including schools, youth centres, residential and community facilities and elsewhere.
  • Maintain and develope communications with minority interests to ensure that services are appropriate and planned locally and across the country.
Aylesbury Vale District Council
will:

Ensure that no tenant, prospective tenant or other customer of Housing Services receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of race, colour, creed, nationality, ethnic or national origins or are placed at a disadvantage by conditions or requirements that cannot be shown to be justifiable.

Take appropriate action in the cases of racial harassment and liase with other relevant agencies in matters of alleged abuse.
