There's now an
easier way to find
work and claim
benefit - just call
a ONE advisor.

About ONE

ONE is a new service which gives you real help with finding work and claiming benefits. It also gives you information on training and other services - all through a single point of contact, your personal advisor.

ONE makes life easier because you start by just making a phone call. We can collect most of the details to process your claim over the phone.

A phone call saves you having to travel and you can fit in around any family or caring responsibilities - making it simpler and a lot more convenient.

ONE aims to help you find a job if you can work, and offers you security if you cannot. You will get to know your personal adviser, and meet them to discuss your situation face to face. They are there to give you ongoing support and back-up to help you make the most of your abilities and become more independent.

Call 0845 600 1110 if you:

If you have speech or hearing problems and use a telephone, call
0845 601 1902.

Both of these numbers cost the same as a local call. If you are aged 60 or over, you can choose to join or stay in ONE.

First you call us.......

Pick up the phone and call 0845 600 1110 (or textphone 0845 601 1902).

We will ask for your name, address and national insurance number, and arrange to call you back at a convenient time. This call will take four or five minutes.

If there isn't a phone you can use, or you have difficulty using phones, call in at your local ONE centre and they will tell you what you need to do.

If your first language is not English, we will see if we have an advisor who speaks your language. If not, we can usually arrange a three-way conversation between you, your adviser and translator.

There are ONE centres in some jobcentres, Benefits Agency and other authority offices.

Then we will call you......

We will call you back at a time to suit you. This call takes about 40 minutes.

The person you speak to, your start-up adviser, will fill in a claim form for most of the benefits with you over the phone.

They will arrange for you to meet your personal adviser, and send you a copy of the filled in form to sign and take with you to your personal adviser meeting.

They will also talk to you about what kind of work you might be able to do, and what other options could be open to you.

We cannot phone you back on a mobile phone or a public phone box. So try to arrange for us to call on a normal home phone - you could ask a friend or a neighbour.

Your call may be recorded for training purposes. The phone lines are open from 8:30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Then you meet your personal adviser....

You'll talk to your personal adviser face to face, so they can get to know your situation. They will try to find the best way to help you find work and claim benefits.

Your personal adviser can:

You can ask your personal adviser to help you put together the right package of support to get a worthwhile job which fits your circumstances, or helps you become more able to work in the future.

For example, you might want help with:

Your adviser can also tell you about benefits you may be able to claim if you start work - so you can see how much better off you could be.

You have to go to a personal adviser meeting - if you don't, you cannot get any of the ONE benefits. If you are claiming a benefit other than job seekers allowance we will take your individual circumstances into account. For instance, if you are distressed because a close relative has died, you may not have to see your personal adviser until things have settled down.

The ONE benefits....

The Benefits Agency, the Employment Service and your local authority are now working together, with ONE aim - to give you a better service.
